Chicks are sold as straight-run (random assortment of male and female chicks) unless otherwise stated. We cannot guarantee the sex or the ratio of male:female chicks you receive.


Shipped chicks are mailed out the day of hatch and packed with Gro-gel, chick starter, and heat packs to ensure they stay hydrated and warm during their travel. We ship USPS Express and chicks typically take 1-2 days to arrive. At the time of shipment, customer will receive an automated shipping confirmation email with tracking information. All shipments are noted to be held for pickup at the post office with the customer's phone number. Shipping is a flat rate of $60 per box ($50 for MS or LA zip codes). This includes postage, the shipping box, Gro-gel, some chick starter, and heat packs. One box holds up to 20 chicks. Any order over 20 chicks will require a second shipping box (+$60 shipping, note you may be invoiced separately).

Orders are scheduled on a first come, first served basis. If you have a preference when your order is to be shipped or if you have any dates you absolutely cannot accept chicks, please leave us a message in the note section of your order. You will be notified 1-2 days before your order ships. Chicks ship on Tuesdays.

Per our policy, we not issue refunds or cancellations on orders placed. There are many brooding techniques practiced among chicken owners, and I cannot control how chicks are handled once in a customer’s possession. Windmill Hill will not be held responsible for the death of chicks after the Post Office scans them delivered. We always do our best to ensure chicks are shipped safe and comfortably. In the event that something goes wrong or you lose any, let us know so we will be aware of the situation. We also do our best to add additional chicks, free of charge, to orders to compensate for any loss that may occur during shipping. We ask that you take a picture of anything that appears to be a concern and text or email it to us. We do not offer refunds.

Some of our products will allow customers to purchase beyond what is currently “in stock.” This feature allows for pre-orders on upcoming hatches and egg availability. If this poses an issue for you, we suggest reaching out about current wait times or simply check back for a formal restock. If we are not able to fulfill the order within six months, we will refund you only under those circumstances.

This keeps all correspondence linked to your order so communication remains clear and we can most efficiently assist you. Social media messages and direct emails can easily get lost with the number of notifications we receive daily.
